Diabetic Cookbooks

No two diabetic are alike so no blanket or generic diet will work for everyone under this condition. There are a lot of diabetic cookbooks out there too where you will get a lot of ideas on what you can cook to keep yourself healthy.

What I am going to present are just general guidelines that you can refer to once you already have specific instructions from your doctor.

One sure thing that you will need to do is favor food that has starch such as cereals and bread. There are also starchy vegetables out there. If you are not into vegetables, I am sorry, you need to get into it because you will need it. I am sure you have heard of the saying that you should eat more often in smaller servings. You can apply this same rule when consuming starch filled food. Try go have six servings a day.

You also need to consume a lot of fruits and vegetables. You need to have five kinds, one serving each. Just remember that you are not supposed to add any dressing on your fruit or vegetables. You have to keep everything as raw as possible. If you wish to cook vegetables, steam it a bit but you cannot add anything - no butter, no oil, no salt.

You can still have those sinful indulgences like a cake but you cannot eat a whole slice. It's not like a diabetic can afford to keep their sugar level so low, anyway. You have to moderate it. The sugar, fat and calories you will get from that can kill you.

Try and get your hands on a diabetic cookbook that will give you specific recipes that are still interesting to the taste buds but will also regulate the nutrients that you need to have the energy that you need physically and mentally.
